Model: Vincent Calabrese “Jump Hour” Commedia
Year: Mid '90s
The Origin. Vincent Calabrese is a name that might be immediately familiar to watch enthusiasts. I had the pleasure of showcasing his work not once, but twice last year. Each time, he offered us his unusual take on a jump hour watch, and today is no different.
The Complication. Only the minute hand and seconds hand grace the dial, while the 1–12 hour display now occupies the space where the burlesque performance took place on Calabrese's other variant. Perfect for anyone wanting to sport a traditional Calabrese Jump Hour, without risking a risqué wrist. Come to think of it, the previously discussed variant isn’t technically a jump hour - it’s normal three-hander with a jump show, I suppose? Too niche to categorise, as is often the case with Calabrese’s work!
The Innovations. It’s silly, it’s clever. But most importantly, it’s very Vincent Calabrese. He’s pioneered multiple horological innovations, including his current mission to reinvent the hairspring, and he founded the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI) that essentially serves as a Hall of Fame for living watchmakers. And yet he still finds it important to remind people that watches can, and should, be fun.
Condition: In very good condition overall. Small hairlines can be seen on close inspection.
Scope: No box or papers.
Movement: In-house Quartz Vincent Calabrese
